Hi, friends! I’m coming to you a few days late with Stephen’s 2 week update, but I have just been waiting until his 2 week doctor appointment so I could update with his current stats. :)
This week has been another great one, filled with lots of visitors and snuggling with both of our babies… Aunt Heather, Memaw (my Mom), Aunt Bekah, and Uncle Kyle, to name a few!
Our appointment went great this morning, S was in a great mood and the basic report was that he is perfect—growing, sleeping and eating like he should be. Everything has been going so well that I really didn’t have a lot to ask the doctor, so it was a pretty short and sweet appointment. I’ll get straight to the update because it’s late and mama is tired!
Weight/Length: As of his 2 week doctor appointment today, he is 8 lbs, 3 oz (30%) and 21 inches long (58%), and his head is 14.5 inches (41%). He’s +10 oz from his birth weight, so growing like a weed! :)
Sleep: He is doing pretty great for a 2 week old. He has been giving us about a 5 or 5.5 (and a few nights, a 6) hour stretch each night, waking up to eat around 5 or 5:30 a.m., and then going back down until 8:30 or 9 every morning. I am lucky, I know! He still pretty much sleeps all day, but he has been staying awake for a few short stretches during the day, but he’s mostly still sleepy and snuggly and I love it.
Feeding: Is still going great. He’s nursing about every 2-2.5 hours during the day, sometimes more or less often… still just feeding on demand. Much like when H was a newborn, I am producing WAY more milk than he can possibly eat, so I’ve been pumping once a day for about 10 minutes just to get some relief (and pumping somewhere around 8-10 oz after he has already eaten). It’s hard because it’s a total catch 22; I know that pumping just tells my body that it needs to produce that much, but if I don’t pump, I’m so uncomfortable that I’m pretty much miserable. I’m hoping that my body will even it all out sooner rather than later… I know it eventually did with Hadley, I am just not sure how long it took. We haven’t tried a bottle yet, but we will try at some point this week…fingers crossed!
Developments: He already has pretty good head/neck control and loves to lift it up and look around when he’s lying on people’s chests… we haven’t done “official” tummy time (bad mama?) yet, but once I dig out the play mat we will and I’m anxious to see how he does with it. There’s not much else to report here other than that he is just starting to stay awake for longer periods and be very alert during those times.
Firsts This Week: His cord fell off this week, so he had his first real bath. He slept through the entire thing… I’d say he was a fan. ;)
How Big Sister Hadley is Doing: She has warmed up to her baby brother SO much more this week. She loves to give him kisses, and is the first one to “shh” him and say “it’s ok, buddy” when he cries. She tells me often “I love him, Mommy”, and asks to hold him at least a few times a day. I think they will be best friends before long! ;)
How Mommy’s Doing: I would say I am 99.9% back to normal, or as close to normal as I can be with getting way less sleep than I’m used to (not necessarily because of S… Hadley has actually been the one waking up randomly in the middle of the night the last couple of nights… what the heck?!). I am down to my “goal” weight, which is 4 lbs more than my pre-pregnancy weight, which I think was too low. I can fit in my regular clothes/pants again, though I have not worn them very often since my uniform has mostly been yoga/PJ pants and t-shirts. :)
What I’m Thankful For: My Mom. She was here this whole week and I can’t even explain how much help she was… with Hadley, with Stephen, with meals for us, with cleaning my house… you name it. I sobbed like a baby when she had to leave, even though we had more help coming and will have help for the next couple of weeks…there’s just nothing like having your Mama there. Thank you, Mom, so much, for everything you have done for me, Jon, H & S… I could never thank you enough, we love you!
What I’m Looking Forward To: A fun week with Jennifer here! So lucky to have my best friend come to help us out, Hadley (and Stephen) love her as much as I do!
Next Pediatrician Appointment: April 21st for his 2 month appointment…SOOOOO far away!
I will finish the post with the pics from this week… another great week with our sweet boy (and girl)! :)
Until next time… goodnight!
