Weekend in Pictures

We spent this past weekend in Concord with Jon’s family. When we are there, Jon’s mom always tries to make sure that we get to see all of both sides of the family (which is possible with a smaller family like Jon’s—this never seems to work with mine!). We went to Jon’s Aldridge grandparents’ house on Saturday and got to spend time with them and all of the Aldridges (minus Todd—we missed you!). Sunday, we went over to Jon’s Kluttz grandparents’ to spend time with them and the rest of that side of the family. As always, it was great to spend some family time and I know Hadley definitely enjoyed all of the attention—I think she was held the entire time other than when she was sleeping at night! And she was little miss perfect all weekend; there was little to no fussing and lots of smiles for everyone! In an effort to keep my weekly update post from having a million photos, I wanted to go ahead and share some photos of H and her doting family that I took this weekend!

Early Kirby Family Christmas Celebration

As I mentioned earlier, this past weekend, all of my immediate family came to town for our early family Christmas celebration at my brother’s house in Apex. My parents got in on Friday afternoon and spent the night at our house. We just hung out and had a low-key night… we had heard about the show “Homeland” on Showtime (apparently it is President Obama’s favorite show) which was rumored to be like one of our all-time favorite shows, 24, so we watched the first couple episodes of that—and we are all now hooked. I would highly recommend if you haven’t seen it!

Saturday morning, we got up early to go watch my nephews play basketball. Jacob’s game was at 9 a.m. and Coleman’s was at 10…needless to say they both had pretty big cheering sections! Both boys played great and we all really enjoyed watching them play. Here are a couple pics I snapped of them playing—and yep, Jacob kept that tongue out almost the whole time—so cute!

And of course I have to share one of the sweet girls coloring supporting the boys :)

After Coleman’s game was over, we all headed over to Zack and Kelley’s for lunch—tacos, yum! The food was delish, and after dessert (banana pudding for me, sigh, I wish I had some of it NOW!), it was time for the gift opening—which the kids had been waiting all day for! Much to their dismay, we switched things up this year and opened them in order from oldest to youngest…but they (surprisingly) waited patiently and I would say that everyone got some awesome gifts. We are all so very blessed.

We also managed to get a picture of the “whole fam damily” thanks to a tripod and self-timer. :) It’s hard to believe there are 16 of us, very soon to be 17!

After the kids played with their Christmas presents for a little while, it was time for the last basketball game of the day, Hayden’s. Hayden is the oldest grandkid (11) and it was really fun to watch him play—it is amazing the skill level that some of these kids have already!

After the game, we headed back to our house with my parents, Kyle & Bekah and hung out together for a little while before my parents headed back to UG. Overall, it was a GREAT weekend and I am so glad that we were all able to get together. It definitely would have been nice if Hadley would have come at some point while everyone was here, but I guess she just wasn’t ready yet. That just means they’ll all have to come back soon when she finally does grace us with her presence! I seriously love my (big, fun) family and am so excited for Hadley to meet them all! :)

37 Week Update

Yet another week has already passed! We are now less than two weeks from Christmas, and only 18 days from the due date. I guess the big news this week is that this is my last “official” week of work before the baby’s arrival—I have vacation scheduled for all of next week, but depending on how things go and how I am feeling, I may end up working a couple of days at the beginning of the week next week just to save some of my vacation days for during my leave. We’ll see! This whole not-really-being-able-to-plan-anything thing just really makes things difficult.

We had our 37 week appointment with Dr. Brannon today, and all is well—nothing new to report since my visit on Friday…she seems to be stubborn still holding on strong in there. Hadley’s heart rate was around 152, and Dr. Brannon let us hear it for even longer than normal…he said because he was sure that we loved that sound as much as he does (agree). Everything was business as usual, no big changes but Dr. B maintains that she could come at any time… we’ll see! I did ask him today when they would “check” me to see if I am dilated/effaced, and he said that he doesn’t check until I’m a) in labor or b) 39 weeks. He said that I could be 1 or 2 cm for weeks, and that there really wasn’t any point in hurting me/making me uncomfortable by checking me until I had some more signs of labor. Fine by me!

Just a quick weekend update, we successfully got (almost) everything done on our to-do list! We: finished the Christmas shopping (all except for one thing that we can get this week), got the rest of the items we needed off our baby registries by using our gift cards, went to an awesome Tacky Christmas Party at the Lemire’s, cleaned the house, got the rest of the baby things washed, got the pack ‘n play set up downstairs, installed the carseat, went to an amazing church service Sunday morning (with a special performance by the children’s choir of about 35 kids—SO cute!), addressed our Christmas cards, wrapped the rest of the Christmas presents, and updated my belly book through this week, all between Friday night and last night. It was a little exhausting but I feel SO much better now that it is all done!

Here is the only picture we managed to take from the Tacky Christmas party on Saturday night (thanks to Lemire for taking it!). No judgment, I know my shirt was a little bit too short but I did not want to buy a new one! I told them that if I would have had the guts to do it, I would have worn it with my belly hanging out of the bottom…how would that be for tacky?! ;)

I think that catches up on the weekend happenings. Here are the stats for week 37!

Size of Baby A: She is as long as a stalk of Swiss Chard…one of my emails said that she is the size of a small watermelon this week, but that just seems TOO big so I’m ignoring that one. :)

She is about 19.25 inches long and weighs around 6.3 lbs.

Developments This Week: She is officially full term! Crazy! All of her organs should be fully developed and prepared for the outside world.

Weight Gain So Far: Per the doctor’s scale this morning, somehow I have not gained an ounce since last week—still 23.7 lbs!

Cravings: Nothing new here—still chocolate milk, Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses, and clementines.

Aversions: None.

Symptoms: Still just uncomfortable. She is most definitely running out of room in there, and I am getting more and more anxious for her arrival! Also as I blogged about this past weekend, still feeling some contractions, but I guess they are just Braxton Hicks that are getting stronger and stronger…not the real thing YET.

Movement: I thought it was supposed to slow down by now, but it definitely hasn’t. The kicks are getting harder and harder though, sometimes even taking my breath away!

What I Miss: Being able to sit up straight, comfortably! Pretty much the only time I am really comfortable is when I am lying down. This makes sitting at my desk at work all day REALLY fun. Not.

Things I am Thankful For: Getting (almost) everything marked off my to-do list this past weekend…and thankful for all of Jon’s help with it all. Also for Jon not killing me over some of my ridiculous “nesting” activities this weekend. ;)

What I’m Looking Forward To: Our early family Christmas celebration with my immediate family this weekend, they are all coming to us and we are getting together Saturday at my brother’s house. Also, of course I’m looking forward to Miss Hadley’s arrival…specifically holding her, seeing what she looks like, and getting to see Jon with her. Cannot wait! Juuust saying, this coming weekend would be a great time for her to come with all of my family coming into town, plus Saturday is Sarah’s birthday! :)

Bump Growth: People keep commenting on how much bigger I am getting each week…of course I am, I am 37.5 weeks pregnant and she could come any day now!

Side note: No worries, no trouble in paradise and the wedding rings do still fit (no swelling yet thank goodness!), I had just gotten done cutting up chicken and forgot to put them back on. ;)

Next Doctor Appointment: December 19

Hope everyone has a great week!

The Joys of Being “Aunt Stephanie”

For those who may not know (not sure how you couldn’t know from the 6926982692 pictures of them I post on facebook), I have the privilege of being “Aunt Stephanie” to 6 nieces and nephews. My older sister, Miki and her husband, Frank have a son, Caleb (10, 11 in January), and a daughter, Natalie (4):

My older brother, Zack, and his wife, Kelley, have four kids: 3 boys, Hayden (11), Coleman (8, 9 in 10 days!) and Jacob (6), and a girl, Mary (2, 3 in February):

Seriously, how cute are they? I am one lucky aunt. Sidenote: Miss Hadley is going to be the 7th grandchild and I believe the 17th great-grandchild in my family. Crazy, right? She will be the first grandchild in Jon’s family as well as the first great-grandchild on either side…so to say that his family is excited is an understatement!

I feel so lucky that I have such great role models in my sister, brother-in-law, brother and sister-in-law as far as parenting goes. They are all absolutely amazing parents, and their kids are just proof of that. Not only are they cute, but they are all super smart and well-behaved…with the cutest personalities. I have already relied a lot on Miki (my sister) and Kelley (sister-in-law) for advice during the pregnancy… so I know that when Hadley arrives, I will be hitting them up for tons of advice then, too (giving you two fair warning!). With my sister and brother being 17 and 11 years older than me, respectively (I’ll let you do the math if you want to figure out how old they are, ha!), I never thought that we would have kids that are close to the same age…but here we are, and Hadley is going to have cousins only 3 and 4 years older than her! I am so glad that they will get to grow up playing together and I cannot wait to see them together. :)

Like I said, Hadley will be the first grandchild in Jon’s family, so he did not “officially” become an uncle until we got married—but boy, do those kids love him. The boys love playing with him and climbing all over him, and Jon loves it, too.  Natalie and Mary are actually the first newborns he was ever around, and he adores those little girls. I love to watch him with them when he doesn’t know I’m looking; it is so fun to see what a great Dad he is going to be to our little girl.

I am blessed to get to be a part of my nieces’ and nephews’ lives, and I cherish any time we get to spend with them. Zack and Kelley and family live just about 10 minutes from us in Apex, so it is definitely nice to be so close to them, even though we still don’t get to see them as often as I would like! I am thankful that I have gotten to babysit and spend time with them, and to get at least a little bit of experience under my belt for when we are the ones with a house full of kids! :)

I will end this post by sharing a few pictures that I snapped of Zack and Kelley’s kids this past Sunday for their Christmas cards… I really love taking pictures, especially when the subjects are as cute as these!

Sweet, sweet kids. I am so blessed to be “Aunt Stephanie”!

Our First Baby Shower

I want to start off this post by asking everyone to please say a prayer for my Granny. She was taken to the emergency room at Chapel Hill today for very low blood count, high blood pressure, and trouble breathing. I just saw her on Sunday at our baby shower, and she seemed to be doing ok, so this is all a pretty big shock. Just pray that the doctors can figure out why she is losing blood and that she starts to feel better soon.

I have said it many times, but I am SO blessed to have such an amazing family. The women of the Kirby family were so sweet to throw us our first shower this past Sunday afternoon, at my Aunt Sherry & Uncle Mike’s house in Newton. All of my aunts and most of my girl cousins came, as well as my Granny, my mom, sisters, Jon’s mom, and Jon’s Grandma Kluttz. The food was delicious and the decorations were so cute—everything was PINK! :)

Too cute, right? Everyone was so generous with the gifts…this baby is not going to be in need of anything! Here are a few pics that Bekah snapped as I was opening gifts—but I’m warning you, please ignore some of my facial expressions—she seemed to always snap them when I was talking or making ridiculous faces.

As you can see, we got some great stuff! Jon has actually already put the Pack ‘N Play together, and we tested out the video monitor—both are awesome. The next series of pictures needs a little bit of explanation. I saw on the bag that the gift said it was from my mom, and I know she has been making a blanket to match the nursery, so I assumed that is what it was.  I was wrong…she totally surprised me! She had saved quite a few things from when I was a baby, and her hoarding finally paid off she had washed it all up so it looked brand new. Tears! She gave me (well, I guess I should say that she gave Hadley):

The dress I was dedicated in at Trinity Baptist Church,

The shoes I wore with that dress (SO cute by the way),

The outfit I wore home from the hospital,

The hat that I wore home from the hospital,

and one of my first baby blankets.

I was so surprised that she had kept all of this, and so excited that I will get to pass it on to Hadley. As long as it fits, I definitely want her to wear the dress and shoes when she is baptized. I am not a person who usually keeps a lot of things, but now I feel like I need to save things like this of Hadley’s… all of her “firsts”. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it. Thanks, Mom, for giving me such a special gift!

I also want to thank my awesome Kirby family for the shower, we appreciate your generosity more than you know. I love you all!

I guess I will end the post with even more pictures, even though I have already shared a ton…y’all know I love pictures! I will note that I made a conscious effort to not do the “pregnant pose”, aka holding my hand under my belly in every picture, but maybe I should have so that you could actually see my belly in the pics!

Had to snap a pic of me with the fabulous hosts, my Aunt Jan, cousin Laura, Aunt Sherry, and cousin Meredith:

Me with Jon’s Grandma Kluttz, Jon’s mom, my mom, and my Granny (and no, Jon’s mom and Grandma did not plan on dressing alike, lol):

My sisters trying to “make me look pregnant”:

And finally, one of my sweet sisters and me. I love them!

Thanks again to everyone for making this day so special. Hadley will be truly blessed to be born into such an amazing family.

23 Week Update

Blogging while doing a fantasy football draft…this is an exercise in multi-tasking. It’s preparing me for when the baby gets here I suppose! I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend… we did, it just wasn’t long enough, as usual! Since I’m still running behind on my weekly updates, I’m going to turn this post into a Labor Day weekend recap/23 week update.

Last week was pretty busy at work, so I don’t have a whole lot to update! Our glider came in, and when Jon went to pick it up, only the glider had shipped, not the ottoman. We Jon got the glider put together, but is going to go by and pick up the ottoman sometime this week…can’t wait to get it so I can test out the whole thing! So, so far, in the nursery, we have: the glider, the crib mattress, and a super cute butterfly mobile that Jon picked out from Pottery Barn Kids. I just cannot wait for our furniture to come in so we can start to see it all come together!

This past Friday night, I got off work early (woo hoo!) and headed to the grocery store to get our tailgating food/supplies. I have recently started clipping coupons (I’m just doing it to save a few bucks, I am not going to be one of those people on “Extreme Couponing” on TLC) and ended up saving over $30 on everything, so I call that a success! I spent Friday afternoon and evening prepping food and making sure I had all my ducks in a row. We went to bed semi-early to rest up for the first day of football season 2011! :)

We both got up early (8 a.m) on Saturday; Jon had to mow, and I had to finish getting all the food together. We met up with our tailgating crew around noon (ok, ok, 12:30…but I tried to be on time) and headed out to Carter Finley! It was a beautiful day, sunny, but HOT, so I tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. The food was delish (if I do say so myself), but I feel like I just ate, and drank water/gatorade all day! I literally drank 10 bottles of water during the tailgate…so as a result, I feel like I should have my own personal port-a-potty this season! ;) The boys (that is what I refer to our friends as—there were two other girls there on Saturday and about 20 boys) were all so sweet about the baby; they all asked me questions and told us how happy they were for us. Aaaaand of course they gave Jon and me both a hard time—several of them calculated how old they would be by the time Hadley is 18 (RUDE!)—since they will probably STILL be single then, hahahaha! We had a blast tailgating, hanging out and catching up with everyone…and I didn’t get annoyed with not being able to have a beer, not even once! I’ll post some pictures from the tailgate later this week once I get them uploaded. For now, here’s one that I took with my phone during the game…we were excited for football!

The first half of the game was rough for NC State—we were all just thinking, “grrrreaaat, here we go again.” Such is the life of a NC State fan, though, I suppose! Mike Glennon looked decent, but our offensive line left a LOT to be desired. Luckily we pulled it together somewhat in the 2nd half and we beat Liberty 43-21. I think that Hadley enjoyed her first (of many!) NC State game, as she pretty much kicked from the time I sat down in the stadium until the game was over! Jon also gave her a high five every time we scored, which was cute. :)

As much fun as we had all day Saturday, my feet unfortunately did NOT! That’s right, I guess I experienced my first “real” pregnancy symptom other than barfing every day for 3 months on Saturday evening. When we were walking back to the truck after the game was over, I told Jon that I was getting terrible blisters on my feet, which was so odd because I was wearing shoes that I wear all the time and they had NEVER given me blisters! When I got home, I realized why. My feet were sooo swollen! Proof:

Ouch. I thought it was WAY too early for that, at only 5 months! But, my googling told me otherwise, I read that a lot of women start noticing it around 5 months, especially in the hot summer months and when they are on their feet for a long time (check, and check!). I WAS on my feet most of the evening Friday night and pretty much ALL day on Saturday, in the heat, so I’m sure that is what did it. Next time I will have to remember to sit down every once in a while to keep that from happening.

Sunday morning, we got up, packed a bag, and headed to the lake to spend the rest of our Labor Day weekend with my family. Zack and his family and Miki and hers were all there, so we had a full house! We played on the lake Sunday afternoon, then had a yummy dinner on the grill with everyone plus my sweet Granny and Paw Paw. Sunday night, while I was laying on the couch and Hadley started doing her nightly routine of kicks/flips, Bekah got to feel her kick! It was cute, she squealed when she felt it. Miki had hoped to feel it, too, but unfortunately the baby did not want to cooperate before she went to bed.

Unfortunately, Monday was cloudy/rainy, but the boys finally got some brush burned that my Dad had been trying to do all summer but couldn’t because the water was too high—and the girls stayed inside and relaxed (Bekah, Miki and Kelley worked on a puzzle…and even I got sucked in toward the end even though puzzles are NOT my idea of fun). It was a very low-key day and I got some much-needed lounge time as well as time with my precious nephews and nieces (who are so excited about Miss Hadley, it is so cute!).

I think that catches up on the weekend’s events. Here are the more interesting? 23 week stats:

Size of Baby A: A large mango. She is almost a foot long and weighs in at a little over a pound!

Developments this week: She is becoming more and more active (no kidding, I feel her all the time), and my pregnancy apps all say that I should be able to see the movements on the surface of my skin soon…but I have been seeing that for a couple of weeks now! Also, blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and her hearing is becoming moore keen. She can hear what I hear, but not at the same level (sounds and voices are muffled by the muscles and tissues around my belly, the placenta, and the amniotic fluid). That means she can hear me singing and talking to her! :)

Weight Gain So Far: Per my scale at home, 7 lbs. Not sure I trust it, though, because the whole time it has read less than the doctor’s office scale. We’ll see the official count at our appointment next Monday! I have a feeling it may be more than that, but we’ll see.

Cravings: Right now, Utz cheese balls. I could seriously eat a whole bag of these things at a time, but I try to limit myself.

Aversions: None.

Symptoms: Frequent bathroom trips. Face breakouts, teenager style. And feet swelling this week! So glamorous.

Movement: So much movement, and I love it. I am feeling like I have someone else with me all the time now, and it’s the coolest thing. I am so glad Bekah got to feel an actual kick, you could see her hand pop up when Hadley kicked!

What I Miss: My normal bras. I have officially gone up a size so far, and I hate spending money on them because they are so expensive! Jon is not complaining, though, haha. (Sorry Dad).

Things I am Thankful For: Our tailgating crew, some of the best friends we could ask for! Jon and I were the first (and really only!) of the group to get married, and are the first (and probably also the only for a long while…we hope, lol) to get pregnant, but they are all so excited for us and were so sweet to me, telling me that I looked cute even though I felt big, hot and uncomfortable. I really love those boys!

What I’m looking forward to: (Added this one this week because we have so much to look forward to!) Our doctor appointment on Monday. Also our 3D/4D ultrasound on September 24 and our first shower, thrown by the fabulous Kirby women, on September 25!

Bump Progress: My sister, Miki, told me thanks for wearing my 2-piece bathing suit to the lake on Sunday because it made her feel a lot better about herself. Rude. And last night, while I was lying in the couch, I heard my mom say to Bekah while giggling, “Look at Steph’s belly”. When I asked her what that was supposed to mean, she said “Well, you said you wanted to LOOK pregnant, and you officially do!” I would say this means I have officially “popped”. ;) I hope this means the maternity clothes I bought a couple of weeks ago will be fitting soon!

Next Doctor Appointment: September 12, a week from yesterday!

Hope everyone has a great short week. Just finished my fantasy draft, and Team Victorious Secret (the defending champs, I might add) is ready to dominate, even though Jon just reminded me that the playoffs will likely be right around the time that I’ll be giving birth. Hope WakeMed Cary has good wireless internet! ;)

Weekend Update

Hi to my (2?!) readers from the couch. That’s right, I am home today with a nasty stomach bug that kept me up most of the night last night and has kept me feeling pretty miserable today. It is definitely not how I wanted to start the week, but I’m hoping that after the three hour nap I just took, the worst is over. Also I just talked to my Dad, who has been home sick with the same thing all day, and to Bekah, who said she is also not feeling good today…so I just hope that we did not all pass it around to the rest of the family this weekend! :(

Speaking of the weekend, we had a great one! We spent it at the lake with the whole fam damily, which now totals 16 in my immediate family, if we count Kyle (*AHEM* Kyle it’s about time for something sparkly!). We definitely had a full house, but we all had so much fun playing on the lake all day Saturday and Sunday, and especially celebrating Bekah and Natalie’s birthday on Sunday. The six grandchildren all had a blast, and I couldn’t help but think how Hadley will be here before we know it, swimming and skiing right there in the middle of all her older cousins! I know she will look up to Natalie and Mary much the way I did to my older cousins growing up, and I can’t wait to see them grow up together.

In other exciting news, on Saturday, Jon and I went with my mom to my Paw Paw’s furniture store in Newton and ordered our nursery furniture!  We ordered the crib, rails which we will need in a few years to convert the crib to a full-sized bed, changing table, chest, bookcase and a nightstand (which will go in the bonus room for now) all for less than the retail price of the crib! Is that not crazy?!  Paw Paw told us that as long as it’s in stock, which he thinks it probably is, it should arrive in only ten days!  I had no idea it would be that fast, but I can’t wait to see it. My parents are going to pick it up when it comes in and store it in their garage at the lake until we are ready to move it in…we obviously still have a LOT of work to do to get the nursery ready for it to be moved in (moving the rest of the furniture out of there, painting, carpet cleaning, and moving Jon’s clothes from that closet to one even further away in one of the guest bedrooms). We are holding off on painting until we have our next doctor appointment and find out that they are 100% sure it is a girl (vs. the 99% that they told us at the last appointment, haha…just want to be absolutely sure!).

I also wanted to share some news I just found out today, that my cousin Derrick and his wife Lindsay, who are due just 10 days before us on December 20th, are having a BOY! I am so excited for them, and I think it is so great that their little boy will get to grow up so close in age with my cousin (Derrick’s sister) Kalin’s little boy who is due in October. I also just heard that Derrick and Lindsay are possibly going to be moving to Huntersville, so we will have to get together for baby play dates when we are visiting at home. Congrats to Derrick and Lindsay on all this exciting news!

I think that about covers it for our weekend. Looking forward to a good rest of the week and hoping that this virus goes away sooner rather than later…and that no one else in our family starts to feel sick, too. Hope everyone has a great week!

Tiny Dancer

Ok for those who know me, you know that the chances of this little girl being any sort of dancer are slim to none if she takes after me. However, I can now say with 99% certainty that I am feeling our little sweet pea move around in my belly! I guess I have now been feeling it for about 4 or 5 days. When I first felt it, I really thought it was going to just be gas… But that didn’t happen AND I started feeling it more and more often (even more than normal for a Kirby, lol)! Right now, it just feels like a flutter… Or as my coworker Nicole so perfectly described it, like a goldfish swimming around in my belly! It is an amazing feeling! I can’t wait for Jon to be able to feel it, too.

Yesterday, we made an impromptu decision to head to Concord to spend some time with Jon’s family. Kim and Tim were having all the family over to share their pictures from their Jamaica trip, so we thought it would be a great time to head there and get to see everyone. They are all super excited about the news of the first great-grandchild being a girl! We also got the cutest, softest pink and brown baby blanket from Jon’s Uncle Todd and Aunt Sandy (who both told me that they are reading the blog—I was so excited to hear it because I usually feel like I’m just writing into outer space! So shout out to Uncle Todd and Aunt Sandy, haha). It was great to see everyone and to get to hang out for a little while.

Today, we had lunch at Jon’s Grandma Kluttz’s house with his mom’s side of the family, then headed to Concord Mills with Jon’s parents. There are several baby clothes outlets there (Carter’s, Gymboree, Osh Kosh B’Gosh, Strasburg Children, The Children’s Place), so of course we had to do a little shopping. We exercised some restraint, even though I wanted to buy just about everything in sight! We did get her two warm pajama onesies from Carter’s that were way on sale, and Jon’s parents got her a sweet little blanket and a CUTE little brown, green and pink outfit (the shirt has giraffes on it and says “Grandma Loves Me”). This is going to be one stylish little girl. :)

We are heading back to Raleigh now (that’s right-I’m blogging by iPhone), and I’m not looking forward to another work week! Hope everyone has had a great weekend… We definitely have! Love!
