I have been meaning to get this post up for over a month and a half now… but due to the
millions amount of photos, it has taken me almost a week to get them all uploaded! So, fair warning, this post is going to be a TON of pics. I gave up on getting prints of all the photos I take after about 6 months after H was born, so her blog book will likely be the only place they will be in printed form. And one more disclaimer: 99% of these photos were taken with my “good” camera (if y’all could see how I safeguarded it on the beach, you would laugh), but there are a few iphone photos. In comparison I’m realizing that my ancient iphone takes really crappy pics. Anyway.
My sisters, Dad and I started planning a beach trip as a surprise for my Mom’s 60th birthday a loooong time before this year, maybe even before Christmas? Daddy (as usual) couldn’t keep a secret and ended up telling her, but she was excited. My Mom’s only request for the week was that she not have to cook/make any of the meals—which we all of course agreed to, since she feeds us all ALL the time! Anyway, unfortunately Zack and family weren’t able to come, but the rest of my immediate family rented a house in Cherry Grove for a week, and we had a blast.
I’ve mentioned it before, but Hadley absolutely adores her cousin Natalie (Caleb, too, but she is Natalie’s little shadow), so H was in heaven having her there to play with all week. We had lots of fun family time, game playing, and good food, and the week flew by! Special shout out to my fam for dealing with my crazy pregnancy hormones all week—the beginning for me was definitely the worst. Luckily for me, they still love me. ;)
The first day, we got there in late afternoon, and decided to take H out to the beach to meet my parents and to see how she liked it. She refused to even let her feet touch the sand, after pitching a big fit when we first tried to put her down in it. Jon and I both thought “grrrreaaaat, it’s going to be a LONG week”.
Some of you may also remember that I was a little worried about the sleeping arrangements, since H would be in the same room with us in her pack ‘n play. When we got there, we saw that her pack ‘n play fit perfectly inside the closet, so it was perfect! We actually joked about closing the doors and shutting her in there… but we left them open. However, each night when we came into the room to go to bed, we found that she had closed the closet doors herself! She would play for a while when we put her down, then decide she was ready for bed and would close the doors and go to sleep. I guess she wanted her privacy. ;)
However. Every. single. morning. She woke up EARLY (for her), like 7 or 7:30 and would open the doors and start whispering (at first…then yelling) “Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. Good mornin’ Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. MOMMY!!”. Of course Jon slept right through it, but I heard it all every morning but would just lay there as still as I could in hopes she would go back to sleep. Most mornings she did, but here were a few that she was too wide awake and I just gave up and got her up.
Day 2 at the beach was MUCH better as far as her hate relationship with the sand… it quickly turned into a love relationship once she saw Natalie playing in it, and she had a ball filling up her buckets.
The big kids had a ball in the sand, too… :)
By far, her favorite thing to do was play in in the ocean (or “pool” as she called it for most of the week). She loved to jump the waves with Daddy and splash around!
I’m not sure when my niece and nephew got so BIG… but they are some seriously beautiful kiddos. :)
I’m telling you… H was in HEAVEN having Natalie to play with. And luckily Natalie isn’t too much older so that she is annoyed by H (yet). I loved watching them play together.
H loved having a huge open beach to run around in. I feel like most of our week was spent chasing her around!
There were LOTS of games of bocce played. I never, ever won. Ha!
On Wednesday, Jon took a few pics of me with H. If y’all could see these pics before editing… I’m barely even in the frame of most of them. I really should teach him better. Anyway, somehow these were the only pics taken that day.
More playing in the surf…
One of my favorite photos from the week. Sweet cousin love.
"Aunt Stephanie take a picture of this!". -Natalie
This face makes me laugh. :)
Playing “rosies” (Ring around the rosie).
Jon and Uncle Kyle had the brilliant idea to make H a “pool” near our tent. H LOVED it.
Restaurant night… we went to one of our favorite places, The Chesapeake House!
Friday, Jon, H and I went to Ripleys Aquarium in Myrtle Beach. If you have little ones, I would HIGHLY recommend it! It was a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion. H loved seeing all the fish, and we went through the guided part of the aquarium twice.
Absolutely the best part of the aquarium: live mermaids! H was enthralled and just kept yelling “mermaids! fun!”.
We headed out to the beach for the afternoon after the aquarium. We had seriously perfect weather the whole time we were there, except it rained while we were at the aquarium (fine with us, haha).
H discovered that it was really fun to throw the sand (and after a few stern talking-tos, she learned it was only ok to throw it into the water, not at other people…).
Finally it was our last day on the beach… it was a great one.
Whew. That’s all, folks! And happy belated 60th birthday to my Mama. Thank you for letting US taking care of YOU for once. ;) We all had a blast…and can’t wait to do it again!
