Happy Independence Day! I know I’ve been MIA but a) we were at the beach all last week with no internet, b) our internet at home has been acting up this week, and c) I have just been trying to enjoy every minute I have with H this week because I go back to work (ahhh) on Monday! (I know, excuses, excuses!) Just wanted to take a quick moment to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th, and to say thank you for those who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom. We really are so blessed to live in the greatest country in the world!
We kicked off our 4th celebrations last night by going to see some fireworks in Fuquay Varina, just a few miles from our house. After fighting some crazy traffic (there were SOOOOO many people there, who knew Fuquay was such a happening place?!), we found a place to set up our chairs and waited for the fireworks to begin.
Right as it was just starting to get dark, some DARK clouds rolled in and it started to thunder/lightning a little bit. A lot of people went ahead and packed up and left, and we thought that we should probably do the same since we didn’t have so much as an umbrella and we were parked about a half mile away. As we were packing our stuff up, the fireworks started, so we decided to chance it. I wondered if the loud noises would bother H, but she didn’t even flinch when they started, and she was 100% entranced by them—did not take her eyes off of them from start to finish.
The show was excellent (sorry, Fuquay, but I didn’t have a lot of faith in ya) and I’m so glad that we went. The only bad part was that not 2 minutes after the show was over, the rain started. Remember, I said we were parked about a 1/2 mile away and there were TONS of people there, so it was a mad dash back to the car. H stayed relatively dry in her stroller and covered up in Jon’s shirt, but Jon and I weren’t really able to avoid getting wet. Luckily, it didn’t rain TOO hard…it definitely could have been worse! Either way, we had a great little family outing and I am so glad that H loved her first fireworks. :)
Today, Jon is working (he decided to work the 4th and take Friday off instead so that we can head to the lake for the weekend after H’s 6 month doctor appointment), so we are just taking it easy around the house, and are planning to grill out at the house tonight (the ultimate American pastime, right?!). H and I played outside earlier this afternoon, and I got to snap some photos of her on her first 4th of July. Fun fact: I bought the dress and shoes she is wearing shortly after I found out I was pregnant; I was probably only 8 or 9 weeks. I had no idea if we were having a girl or a boy yet, but I just had a gut feeling that it was going to be a girl, and I knew she had to have this dress (Gymboree, on clearance!) to wear for the 4th! :)
H is waking up from her nap, so I’m off to play for the rest of the day. I hope everyone has a very happy and safe 4th!
